ENDING THE SHARK FIN TRADE & OVERFISHING

#STOPTHEFINTRADE #STOPOVERFISHING

If we would like a planet that has a healthy ocean, filled with life and with ecosystems in balance, then we must tackle one of the most critical problems we face - Overfishing. It happens in all corners of the planet, every day, year after year, in the process, we are emptying out our oceans. Unlike other fish species, sharks are not hunted exclusively as a food source. Sharks are also hunted for a luxury item, a status symbol in some countries - shark fin soup. This one product is the driving force behind the global hunt to kill sharks without regard for consequences. The result is the mass extermination of species. Because food fish are being decimated, sharks are going to be targeted increasingly for their meat. Accidental catch (Bycatch) of sharks is something that needs urgent attention. All of these issues are interwoven and most of them are driven by greed because the industry takes advantage of fisheries issues being complex, intersecting many jurisdictions, nationally and internationally. Overfishing will continue as long as we are unwilling to make some hard choices now. We try to address the issues on as many fronts as possible, leading many campaigns, but just as much, supporting those of other great organizations.
